Top 7 Best Measuring Spoons and Cups

best measuring cups and spoons

I totally understand the need for finding the best measuring spoons if you like baking desserts.

And they come in handy if you like following recipes not by a pinch of this and two pinches of that and then adding a bit more just to get a more intense flavor.

If you like measuring everything from salt to sugar to spices you definitely need a set of the best measuring spoons, they’re essential for sure.

I must be honest and say that I use the measuring spoon that came with my bread machine.

It’s perfect for me because I only like baking bread and even that doesn’t occur as often as I’d like because I end up relying on my bread maker most of the time, even for making dough for pizza.

But that single measuring spoon is more than enough for me. I can approximate a quarter or a third.

Making desserts, for me it sounds as complicated as understanding physics, which I never have and never will. Thankfully, desserts are for sale. Physics knowledge or how things work will forever remain a mystery.

And with all the other recipes I mostly follow the pinch method. Plus, whenever I cook, I taste it like 5 million times before I’m satisfied, even if it’s a recipe that I’ve made for 10 years, since I don’t know the measurements for anything. Now that I think about it, that’s a pretty bad habit to have in the kitchen.

Now that you know about my habits, which weren’t of interest to you at all, let’s talk about what really matters.

Which are our top options for the best measuring spoons? What about the best measuring spoons and cups combo sets?

As always, I’ll try to focus my reviews for the best measuring spoons on those that are high quality while managing to maintain more affordable prices.

Fortunately, when it comes to measuring spoons, it seems that my mission is easy because there are quite a lot of sets with pretty good prices.

1. KitchenAid Classic Measuring Spoons: the Cheapest Best Measuring Spoons

When it comes to spending barely anything on the best measuring spoons, these KitchenAid ones are the answer.

This is a set of 5 spoons that cover all the needed measures quite nicely, the 1/8 is missing.

Sizes

The sizes are: 1 tablespoon, 1/2 tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon, and 1/4 teaspoon.

I really like that they included the 1/2 tablespoon, it’s a nice measurement to have around if you want to half a recipe.

The sizes are printed on each spoon in large letters. You don’t have to take guesses about which’s which.

Since the sizes are engraved not written on, the writing won’t come off after a few years of use or, worse, a few washes.

What I really like is that they’re held together with a thick plastic ring so the measuring spoons nest within each other but can also be easily taken apart.

And they work with both wet and dry ingredients.

Features

They’re so affordable because they’re made of plastic. Obviously, it’s BPA-free plastic. No fancy stainless steel for these ones.

They’re dishwasher safe.

And, I must say, they look quite nice. Not the prettiest thing you’ll have in a kitchen but that shouldn’t matter that much.

There’s a two color scheme – aqua sky the predominant one with a large black band at the top, which also features the design of a mixer and it’s soft grip. Leave it to KitchenAid to remind us about their mixers everywhere.

Cons

If there is one thing to complain about is that they’re quite short, if you want to reach deep inside a box you won’t be able to.

But that’s true even about some of the more expensive best measuring spoons, it’s not a con only for these KitchenAid ones.

Frankly, they’re well made and of good quality even though they’re made of plastic and the price is great.

If you compare them with the OXO Good Grips 7-Piece Plastic Measuring Spoons, which are in the same price range, you’ll see that these KitchenAid are superior and a top choice.

2. U-Taste 18/8 Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons: Overall the Best Measuring Spoons

This is the set that features the highest number of measuring spoons.

Sizes

It’s a set of 7 spoons and it includes absolutely every measurement that you might need: 1/8 & 1/4 & 1/2 & 3/4 & 1 tsp, 1/2 & 1 tbsp.

This wide array of sizes is the main reason why the U-Taste is actually the best measuring spoons set, even though they’re on the shorter side.

Features

The sturdy stainless steel is another bonus that we can’t forget about.

The measurements are etched on the handles, they won’t fade away.

And, surprisingly, the price is really good. Almost twice as expensive as the above cheap option but also totally different.

These will last forever.

They can be used for both dry and liquid ingredients.

The D-ring that holds them together also looks great.

All in all, they’re pretty much perfect. Good price, impressive quality, wide array of measures, and good accuracy. Just nothing to complain of.

3. RSVP International Measuring Spoons: Long Measuring Spoons

Well, if you have quite a bit of money to spend and you want the best long measuring spoons, the RSVP is your choices.

Sizes

These are 6 1/4-inch extra long handle stainless steel spoons.

There are only 4 spoons in the set but they look so absolutely good. Even the chain that holds them together looks nice.

Besides the long shape and the absolutely beautiful design, there is another thing that sets the RSVP apart: the measurements, one in particular.

The 4 spoons have the following measures: 2-Tablespoons, 1-Tablespoon, 1-Teaspoon and 1/2-Teaspoon.

They say that they included the unique 2-Tablespoons measure because it’s a perfect coffee scoop and it’s also the ideal scoop size for measuring protein powder for smoothies.

You don’t want to dip your hand in a jar twice with the 1-Tablespoon when you can use directly the 2-Tablespoons just once.

It’s clear that they’re not exactly aimed at those who love to bake frequently.

After all, these are described as ideal for canisters and tall jars.

However, if you need the smaller measurements, too, it’s best to opt for the above set that includes 7 spoons.

4. OXO Good Grips Measuring Spoons with Magnetic Snaps

I’m definitely including the OXO Good Grips Measuring Spoons in this list just for their magnetic snaps.

That’s not something you see often but I love the idea. I love the fact that they are tightly held together by their magnetic handles.

I also love that the spoons can be easily taken apart and that you can also attach them to the fridge and just leave them there. Or any other metallic surface.

These are innovative with their magnetic handles.

As far as the spoons are concerned, there’s nothing else that stands out.

Sizes

This is a set of 4. For almost the same price, there are other sets with 6 or 7 spoons, like the above U-Taste, but they don’t have magnetic snaps.

The measurements are the classic ones: 1/4 tsp, 1/2 tsp, 1 tsp and 1 T Spoon.

They’re made from sturdy stainless steel, which I like. And they have soft non-slip grip.

The handles also feature permanent, etched measurement markings. There’s no paint that it’s going to fade overtime, those inscriptions will last forever.

They’re definitely on the shorter side.

5. U-Taste 12 Piece Measuring Cups and Spoons, Set of 12

Just above, I said that U-Taste has managed to make the best measuring spoons set of 7 spoons of all measurements that you might need.

It seems that they also succeeded in having a combo set of the best measuring cups and spoons.

The price is pretty good and the quality is at the highest levels, as expected.

Sizes

Instead of being 7 spoons, now we have 7 cups and 5 spoons, which makes it a set of 12.

They’re all made of stainless steel.

The measuring spoons: 1/4 & 1/2 & 1 tsp, 1/2 & 1 Tbsp.

It’s pretty much everything you might need, the 1/8 is missing from the small measures. But there’s the 1/2 Tbsp, that can be useful. They also come with a stainless steel ring to hold them together.

The measuring cups: 1/8 & 1/4 & 1/3 & 1/2 & 2/3 & 3/4 & 1 cup. They really did cover absolutely everything with their cups.

The measurements are engraved and the handles for the cups and spoons display a wide array of colors, made of BPA-free plastic, they look playful.

If you’re looking for the best measuring spoons and cups combo set, the U-Taste would be my first recommendation.

If you want something a lot cheaper, check the one below from KitchenAid.

6. KitchenAid Classic Measuring Cups And Spoons, Set of 9

If the above combo set seems a bit expensive but you’re still looking for the best measuring cups and spoons, you should check out the KitchenAid ones.

I already reviewed their measuring spoons just above and they retain the same characteristics for the combo set, they’re identical only that they’re accompanied by 4 measuring cups.

They’re made of plastic instead of stainless steel but the quality is very good and they’re durable.

Sizes

The measuring cups measure: 1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup, and 1/4 cup. They’re also linked by a removable plastic loop for easy compact storage.

The measuring spoons: 1 tablespoon, 1/2 tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon, and 1/4 teaspoon. These measurements are etched into the handles and they’re linked similarly with a removable loop.

This comb set of 9 might be tinier but it also has a cheap affordable price and it covers all the major measures, plus there’s that addition of 1/2 tablespoon that isn’t so easy to find..

You can’t get a better deal than this KitchenAid set.

Features

They’re not the prettiest set but they measure accurately and that’s what matters.

Their precision and accuracy is one of their best features alongside the cheap price and good durable construction.

It’s no wonder they’re so popular and highly praised.

However, there’s just one thing you need to pay attention to.

They offer a wide range of colors but the thing is that only some sets have the measurements printed on (engraved) while others have the measurements just written on the handles, which means it will come off after a few washes.

So, pay close attention to that detail when choosing the color you prefer. Otherwise, they’re all excellent.

7. Simply Gourmet Measuring Cups and Measuring Spoons, Set of 12

This is one expensive combo set of best measuring cups and measuring spoons.

One immediately noticeable difference between this one and the rest is that the spoons have longer handles. And it looks really nice, they have a classic design.

It’s a stainless steel combo set.

Sizes

The set is made of 6 measuring cups and 6 measuring spoons.

The measuring spoons: 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 tsp, 1 Tbsp.

It covers the whole range of smaller measurements. There’s no 1/2 Tbsp. If you want a replacement for the 1/2 Tbsp, keep in mind that it represents three half teaspoons (3 1/2 tsp). Or 1 tsp and one 1/2 tsp.

The measuring cups: 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 1 Cup.

The measurements are engraved.

It’s a very good set but I’m not a big fan of the price, the U-Taste still seems like the better option for the best measuring spoons and cups or the KitchenAid one if you’re looking for the cheapest best measuring spoons and cups.

Best Measuring Spoons Buying Guide

When it comes to choosing the best measuring spoons, the task is easy.

There’s nothing complicated about it and I’ll tell you why.

Material

We get to choose from two materials:

  • plastic if you don’t want to spend too much money
  • and stainless steel if you’re willing to spend at least double than the plastic measuring spoons cost

There’s one important factor to point out:

All my selections for the best measuring spoons have been selected firstly for their accuracy.

If they don’t measure ingredients accurately then there’s no point in considering them.

Thus,

Both the plastic and the stainless steel ones do their job, which is to measure dry and liquid ingredients accurately.

Measuring spoons + cups sets

I’ve also selected 3 best measuring spoons and cups combo sets.

I use a measuring cup for liquids but for dry ingredients I always use a kitchen scale.

There’s nothing more accurate than a kitchen scale when it comes to weighing flour for bread recipes and even bread machine user manuals recommend it.

Both the plastic and the stainless steel ones are durable and the measurements are engraved on the handles so there’s no writing to come off.

Prices

There’s also variety among my choices.

There is one plastic set, cheap and impressively good even though the design is not the prettiest.

Furthermore, there is one that’s overall the best with a wide array of measurements and made of stainless steel.

Last but not least, here is one set with long handles but only 4 measurements and quite an expensive price. I’m not a big fan of the price.

And there is one with magnetic snaps that’s quite interesting but it only has 4 measurements.

As you can see, there are plenty of impressive options to choose from when it comes to looking for the best measuring spoons and cups.
