Best Bread Slicer: My 6 Picks

sliced bread using a bread slicer

I know that you came here looking for the best bread slicer and we’re definitely going to get into some reviews and recommendations. That’s not the problem.

The thing is that I have to warn you about something before moving on. Pretty much all the models that I did research on have some pretty big cons. I must admit that it’s not something that happens often to me.

When I’m looking for products to recommend for being the best, no matter what type of kitchen tool or kitchen appliance we’re talking about, I am able to find some really awesome models that I can’t wait to review and tell the world about.

This time, the process didn’t go that smoothly. I didn’t imagine that one of my biggest challenges would be finding the best bread slicer but here we are. Let’s make the most of it and see which are the pros and cons for each of these models.

6 Best Bread Slicers (Manual & Electric)

I will admit right now that I am not a big user of bread slicers, since I prefer using an awesome bread knife on a nice cutting board.

I will also admit that if you want perfect slices of the same thickness, then you’re not going to always achieve that by using a knife alone. If you want those perfect equal slices every time you put the knife through a loaf, then you’ll need to check out these reviews for the best bread slicer.

I took the liberty of also recommending a few best electric food slicers for bread.

1. Bambusi Bread Slicer – Overall Best Bread Slicer

Overall, I consider the Bambusi to be the best bread slicer. It’s pretty much one of the cheapest models. We also have to take into account that it comes with its own bread knife. That’s really nice.

Does it have cons? Yes, it does. We’ll talk about them after we see what it offers.

Design

It’s made of bamboo and it looks pretty normal, nothing impressive when it comes to design. But I love that it gives a sturdy feeling and that’s what matters.

It is actually made of organic moso bamboo. I don’t know much about the different types of bamboo but the manufacturer assures us that it’s 100% environmentally conscious bamboo.

I’m more interested in it being high quality and durable enough that it will last many years to come, even when it’s used almost daily.

In the reviews, there is actually a video from a user that shows us exactly how to fold it and open it. That’s amazing and very helpful since this is a foldable bamboo slicer.

I love the foldable aspect because a lot of us have plenty of appliances that need their permanent spots on the countertop. This tool doesn’t exactly get priority. It’s nice to be able to throw it in a cupboard somewhere.

Components

This is the part where this slicer gets really exciting.

We’ll talk about its components in a second. I also wanted to let you know that it works for breads, bagels, cakes, and any other baked goods that are up to 5.5 inches wide and 5 inches tall.

You’ll be able to cut loaves in 3 sizes: thin, medium, thick. I like the 3 options.

The Bambusi has a lot of components that become even more exciting when we consider the affordable price:

  • the major component is the foldable bamboo slicer
  • another important one is the stainless steel bread knife with an 8-inch blade that is included in the set – the knife also has a storage place in the side of the crumb catching tray, hold in place by magnets
  • crumb catching tray to avoid spilling any crumbs, you can also gather the crumbs and use them in your cooking – the tray can also be used as a serving tray
  • non-slip silicone grips for keeping it in place
  • a storage bag for when it’s folded
  • slicing guide, you should read it if you want to get even slices every time

Cons

There are some reviews that state that it’s quite flimsy and that it doesn’t stay steady enough when it comes to cutting, meaning that the panels don’t click into place as they should.

For others, it already arrived damaged or warped. And others didn’t get it to work, while some users ended up cutting into the slats while trying to cut a loaf.

2. Fshopping Foldable Toast Bread Slicer

This one is specially designed for cutting bread, ham and cheese. It’s an interesting selection of foods but I won’t complain, although my focus is on how well it handles loaves. No bagels cutting, either.

Design

First of all, I love the red color of this slicer. It will definitely be a change from all the bamboo slicers, their design is quite monotone and not very exciting. Frankly, I prefer this design.

It’s made of food-grade PP. So, it’s actually made of plastic.

Plus, it’s also quite good for getting equal slices of bread every time.

Size

The Fshopping is suitable for a majority of toast breads. It fits a bread of up to 2 pounds.

The inside dimensions are: 8.27-inch length x 4.74-inch width x 5.51 inch height. It’s pretty standard, indeed.

Besides the slicer, we won’t get anything else, no knife or anything like that. Given that, it’s quite an expensive model.

There’s also an user operation manual included that instructs you on how to slice and how to fold it/unfold it.

Cons

  • There are reviews that complain about:
  • the prongs wobbling when cutting, some pieces might end up thicker or thinner
  • shaved off pieces of plastic with the knife – this seems to be quite common for quite a few of buyers
  • too narrow for a standard-sized loaf of machine-made bread
  • flimsy plastic

3. Mama’s great Bamboo Bread Slicer

Another bamboo slicer that I want to review is this one from Mama’s great. The price is pretty good and it looks quite sturdy.

However, there’s no knife included in the package. That means that the price can increase considerably, if you don’t already have one.

Size

I want to first talk about the size of this model because it will reveal some of its most important features. It’s this part with the different adjustable sizes that made me review it.

In terms of size, we can:

  • cut a loaf into 2 sizes: thin (⅓ inches) and medium (½ inches) – if you are keen on making Texas toast, you’ll have to do it by hand
  • the width is actually adjustable, we have 3 width options: 3.3 inches, 4.6 inches, and 5.9 inches – that means that it also manages to offer a bigger width option than the 2 models reviewed above
  • 6.1 inches height – the above 2 models have a lower height for the loaf so, I really like this model when it comes to handling tall loaves
  • it also has 2 stop boards for creating a slot just for bagels
  • and rounded edges for smooth knife insertion

Components

As I’ve mentioned, there’s no knife included.

What we get: sturdy cutting board, cutting guides with rounded edges, stop board for bagels, and non-slip pads.

It’s also foldable for compact storage.

Cons

As I’ve warned you in the beginning, there’s no actual best bread slicer, whether manual or electric, that doesn’t come with its share of cons. I guess, it’s a matter of taking a bit of a risk and hoping that we end up being in the camp that’s ecstatic about their purchase.

In this case, the majority of the complaints are related to the cutting guides.

Many describe them as flimsy, suspect them of not being bamboo but made of pine or poplar wood, and say that you can end up with small wood chips in the food.

Also, for some, the guides were hard to fit or wouldn’t fit into the cutting board.

4. Ostba Electric Food Slicer 200W – Overall Best Electric Bread Slicer

As an all-purpose electric slicer, I consider it to be one of the best. But I must make an important point first.

It’s a pretty great tool but paying that price for it is only justified if you have a lot more to slice than a loaf of bread once or twice a week. This is the type of slicer that is bought for its versatility, for its ability to slice all kinds of foods and ingredients.

Power

At 200 W, I’m pretty sure that you won’t find a more powerful model in this price range. It’s quite powerful and it can handle pretty much every food you want to slice.

Blade

The 7.5 inches serrated blade is made of stainless steel. It’s really awesome and the main attraction of the show.

The attractiveness lies in how sharp it is. We know that when it comes to any kind of cutter, we must first worry about how sharp the blade is. This one meets the highest expectations.

It will go through frozen meat, cooked meat, deli, cheese, fruit, vegetables, and bread.

This manufacturer also offers the option of buying different blades or a food pusher separately.

Size

The size of the slices is adjustable.

You can go from super thin to approximately ¾ inches thick. So, it can make Texas toast, too.

Easy cleaning

There’s a ring-guard cover that prevents debris buildup on cutting surfaces.

For a thorough cleaning, you can remove the blade, food carriage, slide-rod extension and good pusher. Wash them by hand and be extra careful of the sharp blade.

5. SuperHandy Electric Food Slicer – the Cheapest Electric Bread Slicer

This is actually an electric best bread slicer that’s foldable. It’s a nice idea for those who live in small places and actually can’t fit in a mammoth made of stainless steel or aluminum.

Blade

It might be foldable and awesome for small cooking spaces but it still comes with a 6.7 inches blade. It is actually a German stainless steel serrated blade.

That’s really good for such an affordable model. To give you an idea, it’s 2 times more expensive than the usual best bread slicer, like the 3 manual models that I reviewed above.

Versatility

It can slice through salamis, meats, hard cheese, fresh baked loaves, firm vegetables.

As you can’t see, there’s no mention of frozen meat so, don’t use it on that.

Size

The SuperHandy Electric Food Slicer offers plenty of freedom in this area, too.

We can go from deli thin to ⅘ inches thick. That’s great.

Power

It’s not very powerful, it has a 100 W motor but that’s to be expected.

What doesn’t impress me at all is the fact that we can use it for 5 minutes, then have to let it rest for 30 minutes. If you’re cooking for 1 or 2 that’s doable. If you’re cooking for many more people, those 5 minutes will fly by.

Easy cleaning

Once again, the major components that need to be cleaned are removable: blade, food carriage, food pusher, and food deflector.

6. Cuisinart Kitchen Pro Food Slicer

If you want to go with a very well-known brand, you can pick this one from Cuisinart. There are some cons to take into account, that’s for sure.

However, there is a considerable number of reviews that state that this electric food slicer works really well for bread.

Power

Regarding its price, this Cuisinart pretty much has the same price as the above Ostba. Overall, I prefer the Ostba but this is a really good model, too.

It also doesn’t hurt that the Ostba is the more powerful of the two.

The Cuisinart has a 130 W motor. It’s pleasantly powerful but not a beast.

Size

The slice control knob allows for nice versatility in the size of our slicing: from 1/32 inches to 1/2 inches.

We can slice through bread, roasts, firm cheese, and more. But don’t use it on frozen meat, it’s not included on the list.

Blade

It comes with a 7.5 inches undulated stainless steel blade.

To better describe the blade, I would borrow the words of someone who left a review for it: it will slide better than a knife and it’s more consistent than a mandolin. I think this description really sums up well what this Cuisinart food slicer is capable of.

If you know how to use it, it will be capable of cutting the thinnest slices. It’s marvelous in this regard.

What I absolutely don’t like is that you can only run it for 10 minutes. The motor is averagely powerful, that low time slot of operation is a disappointment.

All in all, the Cuisinart can definitely be considered a great candidate for the best bread slicer if you have the budget for it but, as expected, it’s not perfect.
