Top 4 Best Springform Pans

Getting the best springform pan is a must if you want to bake delicious cheesecakes and cakes.

These pans are really not that expensive, you won’t have to spend a lot of money on a very good one.

If you take a bit of care of it, it will last a very long time, it’s a good investment for those passionate about making desserts at home.

What Can You Do With a Springform Pan

best springform pan

A springform pan is a round (rarely rectangular) pan that has a big buckle for releasing the bottom and thus the baked goods won’t be damaged and the round form is kept intact.

So,

A round pan with removable bottom thanks to the buckle on the side.

What can you use a springform pan for?

For making things like cheesecakes (it’s probably the first thing that comes to mind when talking about springform pans), quiche, mousse, coffee cake, tortes, tarts, and so much more.

However,

It’s not only good for baking.

This type of pan is ideal for making desserts that need to be placed in the fridge for a few hours, like icebox cakes.

After letting the cake sit in the fridge for hours, you just release the buckle, lift the ring up, and the cake will stand on its own, no baking involved. I love it.

Basically,

Any cake that can’t be turned upside down for removal needs to be baked in a springform pan.

Still,

Cheescakes remain the predominant dessert for which these pans are bought.

Top 4 Best Springform Pans

All these 4 models are pretty incredible.

Each has its own impressive features, it’s actually pretty hard to say for sure that this one or that one is the absolutely best.

I hope that thanks to these short best springform pans reviews, you’ll know what you’re looking and which one would work for you and your needs.

1. Hiware Non-stick Springform Pan

  • made of steel
  • completely dark colored
  • great durability, highly resistant
  • it actually comes in 4 sizes: 6-inch, 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch – you can take your pick, surprisingly they skipped the 9-inch version, I say it’s surprising because most of the springform pans are manufactured in the 9-inch size
  • I recommend getting the 10-inch one, there’s not much difference
  • the 6 inch is obviously the cheapest but the 10 inch is not by much more expensive
  • overall, the Hiware Non-stick Springform Pan is really affordable, very accessible to everyone
  • it obviously says that it’s leakproof but does it actually work?
  • well, it leaks (as I said above there’s no springform pan that doesn’t leak at all, completely airtight) – according to some just a bit, according to others a lot – it’s the same with other models, wrap the bottom in aluminum foil, double wrap would be the best
  • you can also line the bottom with parchment paper
  • double nonstick layer, nothing will stick to this pan, the release is guaranteed to go smoothly
  • the Hiware is incredibly popular, it might actually be the most popular best springform pan
  • the price is pretty affordable but it’s not cheapest you can get, check the next model from Farberware if you want the best price, the quality is impressive, too
  • wash it by hand

2. Farberware 9-Inch Nonstick Springform Baking Pan

  • made of steel
  • it’s also one of the few that it’s lightly colored, it has a gray finish, which is why it doesn’t absorb heat too quickly, it’s very good for even baking, no burned edges
  • well built, very durable
  • due to its heavy-duty construction, which heats evenly, the baking will be superb, without any hot spots that could burn the baked goods in certain spots
  • the even baking is indeed an essential feature and the Farberware delivers it with every baking session
  • smooth latch
  • the price is unbelievable, it’s really incredibly cheap – I think it used to be a bit more expensive but, at the time of writing this Farberware 9-Inch Nonstick Springform Baking Pan review, the price is phenomenal, I hope it stays that way
  • and the quality is impressive
  • everything about is impressive
  • it doesn’t claim to be leakproof
  • some people have complained about it leaking while others praise the fact it doesn’t leak almost at all – that polarization is not applicable only to this Farberware Springform Baking Pan, it happens with all models
  • all that remains is to read the reviews by yourself and see if this or that could be what you’re looking for
  • with all these considered, the Farberware is actually my first recommendation when it comes to talking about the cheapest best springform pan
  • it has a little edge at the bottom, which can turn difficult to clean, you might need to use a toothpick
  • that small lip around the bottom will also make it harder to slide a serving utensil under the dessert whether it’s baked or just let to cool in the fridge
  • wash it only by hand

3. Cuisinart 9-Inch Nonstick Springform Pan

  • made of aluminized steel – you must take care of it, to preserve the nonstick coating
  • I’m not a big fan of pans made of aluminized steel, I think those made just of steel are a bit better, of higher quality and durability but that might just be me
  • the aluminized steel means coated steel – it’s coated to guard it from rusting, it’s highly resistant to corrosion
  • the Cuisinart 9-Inch Nonstick Springform Pan is amazingly well-built
  • no warping will be happening
  • dark sides with light silver bottom, it will cook the crust evenly, no hot spots
  • it looks great, it inspires quality
  • bakes evenly
  • great nonstick coating, it will be very easy to clean
  • it doesn’t claim to be leak proof and, indeed, it’s not but it’s pretty close – if you use a water bath just wrap the bottom with aluminum foil (double layer preferably) and you can also line the bottom with parchment paper
  • that should be the case with any best springform pan – it’s a norm and everyone should do it, don’t just expect it not to leak at all, not even a single drop of water can get it, it’s not going to happen
  • good release system, easy to handle
  • this Cuisinart is really affordable, great price, love that
  • there’s also a champagne option, it’s a lot more expensive, not worth it, the dark version is very good
  • all in all, I highly recommend the Cuisinart 9-Inch Nonstick Springform Pan, very good choice, there’s no way I could have left it out
  • wash it by hand

4. Nordic Ware Leakproof Springform Pan 9 Inch

  • this is another highly popular best springform pan
  • I’m not saying it’s not deserving of that popularity but it’s not my favorite, either, I would call it a top contender
  • made of aluminum
  • dark colored, it tends to overbake a bit
  • it claims to be leak proof, is it so?
  • it’s definitely not leakproof
  • some manufacturers lay down that claim directly while others don’t mention it at all – I think that’s misleading because any pan of this sort will leak, some just a tiny bit, others a lot – I expect those who claim the leak-proof feature to cause the absolute minimum of leaks, that’s it
  • nevertheless, don’t forget about wrapping the bottom with aluminum foil
  • nonstick coating be careful not to scratch it
  • there aren’t many people who don’t appreciate the products from Nordic Ware, they’re of excellent quality, always impressive, they also have an amazing popover pan
  • slightly more expensive than the above models, definitely not my favorite, I still prefer the Farberware and the Cuisinart
  • hand wash it only

How to Choose the Best Springform Pan

There are just a few things that you need to be aware of when shopping for the best springform pan.

The most important features are:

  • leakproof (hint: there’s no 100% leak-proof best springform pan, the idea is to pick a model that comes close to that perfect score)
  • size
  • materials used for manufacturing – well-built, sturdy
  • nonstick coating
  • even baking – if it absorbs too much heat, it can overbake the edges

Choose a Leakproof Springform Pan

The most important thing is to look for one that doesn’t leak.

Unfortunately,

There’s no such thing as an entirely leakproof springform pan but some are definitely better than others.

Making sure it leaks as little as possible is the first feature you should take into consideration, it’s a top priority.

You don’t want to mess up your oven and kitchen with leaking batter.

Also,

Some recipes require the baking to be done in a water bath – you don’t water leaking in, that will ruin the crust, it will become a spongy mess.

When you’re cooking in a water bath, there’s a solution for preventing the water from getting in: wrapping the bottom of the pan in aluminum foil about half-way up the sides, it’s a trick used by everyone.

Using two layers of foil would be best, just to be completely sure.

You can also put parchment paper on the bottom and then lower the ring so that the place were the bottom and the ring come together is sealed thanks to the parchment paper trapped between the two.

It would be such a shame to have all your work go to waste, many people get completely disappointed after such an experience. It’s best to prevent it from happening to you, too.

It’s best to go with double wrapping from the start, why risk it?

Test how much a springform pan leaks and where it leaks from by filling it with water.

It would give you a general idea but it won’t be the same because batter is definitely thicker than water.

The pan won’t leak as much batter as it does water.

Even so,

Don’t forget about wrapping the bottom in aluminum foil, especially if you’re going with the water bath method.

Sizes

They come in different sizes: from as small as 6 inches up to 11 inches.

The 9-inch size seems to be the most popular and the one in which most of them are manufactured, I think it’s the one most commonly found in recipes.

Materials

There are different materials used for making springform pans: steel, aluminized steel (coated steel to prevent it from rusting), aluminum, stainless steel.

You need one that’s well-build, sturdy, and with a buckle that works smoothly.

In time, it’s possible that the latch will rust.

In many cases, the bottom will serve as a serving platter because some desserts can’t be transferred without ruining their shape, they will break down if they’re moved around.

So,

The bottom must be sturdy, it shouldn’t dent or warp and spoil the nice round even shape of the cake.

Nonstick coating

Nonstick coating is a must for easy clean release of the cakes, the majority have it.

A nonstick coating can wear off in time, or it can get scratched – if that happens, to prevent the cake from sticking you can line the pan with parchment paper.

An easy release means an effortless cleaning.

Additional features

Even baking is another feature that you should be aware of.

You can’t have edges that are overbaked.

If the pan absorbs too much heat, the cakes will be cooked too quickly, until the middle it’s completely cooked, the crust will get overcooked or even burned.

It’s for this reason that many people prefer light-colored pans instead of the darker models.

Wash it by hand

No matter which model you end up choosing, it’s best to wash it by hand to preserve the nonstick coating intact, it’s an essential part of a successful release that won’t stick to the sides.

Dry it immediately after with a towel.

Most of them are pretty affordable and, usually, in the same price range.

All of the above 4 best springform pans are really affordable.

It’s actually too much to call the Farberware affordable, I would say that it’s cheap and fantastic (at least at the time of reviewing it, I hope nothing changes because it’s an excellent choice). It’s hard to compete with those attributes.

All in all,

It’s hard to choose, they’re all great, I hope you get to buy the best springform pan for you and love it and bake wonderful cheesecakes and all the rest.
